One of the most tragic aspects of the Titanic disaster is that it could have been avoided. The Californian, a British steamship, was just a few miles away from the Titanic when it sank. However, the Californian's wireless operator, Cyril Evans, had gone to bed early and failed to respond to the Titanic's distress signals.

If Evans had been on duty, he could have alerted the Titanic to the presence of icebergs in the area and the Titanic could have changed course and avoided the disaster. However, Evans was not the only one to blame for the tragedy. The Californian's captain, Stanley Lord, also made a number of mistakes, including failing to launch a lifeboat to investigate the Titanic's distress signals.

In the aftermath of the Titanic disaster, there was a public outcry over the Californian's failure to come to the aid of the Titanic. Evans and Lord were both vilified in the press and public opinion. However, there was one person who emerged as a hero from the disaster: Emma Belmont.

Belmont was the wireless operator aboard the Mount Temple, a British passenger ship that was also in the area of the Titanic disaster. When she heard the Titanic's distress signals, she immediately alerted her captain, who ordered the Mount Temple to sail to the Titanic's aid.

Belmont stayed on duty all night, relaying messages between the Titanic and other ships in the area. She also helped to coordinate the rescue efforts after the Titanic sank. Thanks to Belmont's bravery and heroism, hundreds of lives were saved.

Despite her heroic actions, Belmont was largely forgotten in the aftermath of the Titanic disaster. It was not until many years later that her story was finally told.

In 2012, a book was published about Belmont's role in the Titanic disaster. The book, "The Unsung Heroine of the Titanic," tells the story of Belmont's bravery and heroism. The book has helped to raise awareness of Belmont's story and to ensure that she is finally given the recognition she deserves.

Emma Belmont was a true hero. Her bravery and heroism saved hundreds of lives. She is an inspiration to us all.
