Materials

  • 14-count Aida cloth
  • DMC embroidery floss in the following colors:
    • White
    • Black
    • Red
    • Yellow
    • Green
  • Cross stitch needle
  • Scissors
  • Printable PDF pattern (available below)

Instructions

  1. Print the PDF pattern.
  2. Transfer the pattern to your Aida cloth. You can do this by using a lightbox or by carefully marking the pattern onto the cloth with a pencil or fabric marker.
  3. Start stitching! Begin by stitching the outline of the gnome's body in black. Then, fill in the body with white stitches.
  4. Add the gnome's hat. Stitch the hat in red and then add the brim in white.
  5. Embroider the gnome's beard. Use white stitches to create the beard and then add a few black stitches for the mustache.
  6. Add the gnome's eyes, nose, and mouth. Stitch the eyes in black and the nose in red. For the mouth, use a few black stitches to create a simple smile.
  7. Embroider the gnome's hands. Stitch the hands in black and then add the cuffs in white.
  8. Add the gnome's legs. Stitch the legs in green and then add the shoes in black.
  9. Finish the cross stitch. Once you have stitched all of the details, finish the cross stitch by backstitching around the edges of the design.

Tips

  • Use a sharp needle to avoid splitting the Aida cloth.
  • If you're new to cross stitch, start with a small design like this Easter gnome.
  • Take your time and enjoy the process! Cross stitch is a relaxing and rewarding hobby.
